A project part of “FrauenOrte Lausitz”
The dance project explores the life and work of the scientist Maria Margaretha Kirch, in whose memory the Women’s Political Council of Brandenburg has installed a commemorative plaque in the city centre of Guben. The dance performance will be accompanied live by students from the Guben Music School.
Two bodies enter into a dialogue, tracing pathways through space that guide the audience’s gaze. Like living constellations, they orbit around each other, drawing closer and moving apart — sometimes in harmony, sometimes in a gentle conflict. Their movements recall the Allemande, reinterpreted and transformed.
This dynamic relationship reflects the life and challenges of Maria Margaretha Kirch, an 18th-century astronomer who, despite her scientific contributions, had to struggle for recognition in a male-dominated field. A woman who reached for the stars, even while being kept in their shadow.
